Sunwest Gaited Horses

Kentucky Mountain/Rocky Mtn. Saddle Horses are suited for trail, endurance, showing, working cattle, or carriage driving. They are beautiful, intelligent, gentle, willing, and versatile, with a smooth, 4-beat natural gait.

We have lived on the old Bradley place for 15 years, starting out as Sunwest Morgans. I raised Morgan horses until 2001 when I became interested in the gaited horses of Kentucky, which have a similar appearance and history to the Morgans. I imported a young stallion last year (2007) and have 4 broodmares with foundation Kentucky Mtn./Rocky Mtn. bloodlines.  Our Morgans have sold to families in Sask., BC, and California, as well as locally. We will have foals for sale in 2009.
Our horse herd is small and receives daily attention. Hoof care, vaccinations, and de-worming are kept up to date. Our foals are imprinted at birth, which enables them to trust humans from a young age. They are friendly and curious. After weaning, they are taught to go for walks away from the herd, walk over tarps, bridges, a mattress, load in the trailer, have their feet trimmed, and be ponied on short trail-rides. When they are ready for saddle training they accept a rider calmly and are very easy to train.  My horse family has expanded greatly over the years, as new owners keep in touch, sending emails and pictures of Sunwest horses.  In over 30 years or raising and selling horses, I have never had a horse returned, or re-sold as unsuitable.
